Gastrointestinal Procedures
The following is a brief list of several of the surgical procedures we routinely perform in Bunbury and Busselton. Information provided here is of a general nature and may not apply to your personal circumstances. We’d encourage you to discuss any questions you may have directly with your surgeon.
Colonoscopy
A Colonoscopy is where the doctor uses an instrument called a colonoscope to look at the inside lining of your large bowel. This is done to see if there are any
growths, polyps, cancers or disease in your bowel.
Laparoscopy
A laparoscopy procedure is where a tube is put into the abdomen and instruments passed down the tube to examine the inside of the abdomen and pelvis using
a camera and video monitor.
Laparostomy
A laparostomy procedure is the re-opening of an abdominal wound and possible excision of any dead tissue.
Oesophagoscopy
An oesophagoscopy is a procedure used to check for physical abnormalities in the oesophagus (the structure in the throat that carries food to the stomach.
Sigmoidoscopy
This procedure involves viewing at the lining of the lower part of your large bowel to see if there are any growths or disease using an instrument called a sigmoidoscope.
